Palm just made their development kit available for developers to create applications on their webOS. Submitting applications to enter the App Catalog will be possible from this fall. No exact date is announced yet.

Right now, there are 31 applications present in the App Catalog. It would be good to see more apps getting in the market soon.

Starting this October, the Palm Pre and the App Catalog become available in European countries. We expect Palm to allow more developers in the store around the same time.

Palm App Catalog coming to Europe in October

The Palm App Catalog is now only available in the US. Today, Palm announced that the Palm Pre, their first phone with the App Catalog, will be coming to Europe this October.

The Pre initially will be launched in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. In the UK, Ireland and Germany the Pre will be delivered by O2, and in Spain by Movistar. The launch makes the App Catalog more attractive for developers, possibly resulting in more applications in the Palm App Catalog. Looking good for the App Catalog, we’ll keep you posted on the uptake of the store.

Palm’s App Catalog was launched three weeks ago. The first device to support the Catalog is the Pre, only available in the US. The Palm Catalog started with 150k application downloads on the first day; now over 1 million applications have been downloaded.

At launch, there were only 19 applications available. This went up to 31, and back to 29 available apps at this moment. This is simply not enough; Palm should open its doors for more developers soon.

The number of consumers with access to the Pre will be extended outside the US on the short term. According to Engadget Mobile, Palm will announce details on their plans to launch the Pre in the UK next week. This will also mean that UK consumers will get access to the App Catalog.

Around 300,000 US consumers have a Pre right now, and are apparently more than willing to downloads apps from the Catalog. So how about giving them some more content to choose from? Let’s see how the content in the App Catalog will grow. Nokia set a nice target with increasing the available content with 260% in the first month.

Palm App Catalog coming to Europe in September

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Palm’s App Catalog was launched a week ago. Initially, it was only available on the Palm Pre in the United States. Although the store was launched with a very limited set of applications, the first official download numbers look promising. Today there are also some rumors around that the store saw over half a million downloads in the first week.

In September, the Pre will also become available in Europe. The specific countries are yet undisclosed. However, this means that the reach of the App Catalog will increase after this summer and developers will be able to reach European customers for their Palm WebOS applications.

Before the App Catalog will hit Europe, the first country to follow after the US will be Canada. The Palm Pre is rumored to launch there within weeks.

Confirmed: Palm App Catalog launching June 6

Friday, May 29th, 2009

It was very likely to happen, and now confirmed; the Palm App Catalog will launch June 6th. Yesterday at the New York Times all things digital conference, Palm announced the App Catalog will be launching in beta on the Palm Pre next week.

Palm will have just a dozen or so apps in the store when the Pre launches next week. The beta version will feature applications from developers such as AP News, Citysearch, Fandango, Pandora and uLocate.

Looking at the list of launching apps, it seems unlikely that the beta of the App Catalog will already offer billing. More details will follow next week when the Palm App Catalog joins the game.
