Motorola Launches SHOP4APPS App Store In China

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Last December the first signs came out that Motorola was planning to launch an own Android application store. Now the store, called SHOP4APPS, is officially launched in China.

The store will be new pre-installed on Motorola smartphones in China starting in time for Chinese New Year (February 14, 2010). Next to offering the store on its own handsets, Motorola will also offered it to other manufacturers or partners in China for license.

The content in the store will be tailored per operator, and both free and paid apps will be available. Developers can submit their applications to the store free of charge and Motorola states that apps are approved within 1-5 days.

Revenue share for developers is not disclosed yet. It is also unclear if SHOP4APPS will completely replace the Google Android Market on Motorola phones in China, though this is very likely. We will get back when more information becomes available on this, since it’s also very interesting to see how this will work in other countries where SHOP4APPS is introduced later this year.

SHOP4APPS is added to appstores.info.
