Java
On their blog, Sun announced they are working on their own App Store. Until now, they call it Project Vector (it will likely be renamed to the Java Store). They describe it as “a network service to connect companies of all sizes and types to the roughly one billion Java users all over the world”.
With a community of one billion Java users, this may very well become the largest App Store to date. Besides its size, it seems to be similar to the other App Stores; candidate apps will be evaluated for safety and content and they will be offered both for free and paid in the Java Store. Additionally, developers may bid for placement positions on the storefront.
Similarly to other App Stores, Sun will charge for distribution. For us it is unclear what devices the Java Store will support, however, it would make sense to support all devices being able to run Java.
We will keep you up to date on this new Java Store!
